How to heal a yeast infection naturally?
Posted on November 20, 2009
I have been fighting what I am guessing is a yeast infection for over a week now. It hasn't gotten extremely terrible until today, I am not wanting to take an antibiotic because I am 34 weeks pregnant. Any suggestions or thoughts for natural solution to clear this up?

You do not take an antibiotic you take an antifungal. You can eat yogurt and take acidolphilus found at your health food store. Take 2 every 8 hours with milk. It will take more than one week, but it will be natural. If you get diarrhea your are taking too much cut back.

If you are just “guessing” it’s a yeast infection, you should certainly go have your doc check it out and make sure. Treating a vaginal infection as the incorrect one can make what you have that much worse.
Antibiotics are not for yeast infections, they are for bacterial infections.
If you have a bacterial infection you need to take the antibiotics because the bacterial infection could cause problems with your pregnancy if it were to spread into your uterus or into the placenta, or it could pose a threat to the baby during delivery.
Not to mention, you can not get rid of a bacterial infection completely using home remedies, and there are no OTC treatments that are officially recognized as effective.
If it’s a yeast infection, vaginal anti-fungals are considered safe to use during pregnancy. Most likely your doc would prefer you to use a 7-day treatment over a 3 or 1 day treatment or an oral anti-fungal because it is less potent and therefore safer. At 34 weeks but, most medications and treatments are safer to use/take than if you were in the first trimester.
If you insist on using a home remedy, talk to your doc first.
Plain, sugar-free yogurt douches seem to be the most well loved home yeast treatment. Theory being the bacteria in yogurt will eventually overpopulate and kill off the yeast fungi. It can take a very long time to work.
I battled recurring yeast and bacterial infections during both my pregnancies. It’s not pleasant. It’s vital to clear them up completely, for yours and your baby’s health.

As well as treatments you also want to make sure you’re not doing anything to make the infection worse. Normal vaginal health; wash regularly but only with water (soaps, washes, wipes, sprays, powders, douching, or even ‘feminine’ cleaning products all effect vaginal pH so cause infections), keep yourself dry (avoid tight or synthetic clothing), safe sex (anything that goes into your vagina should be clean, no food stuffs), and always wipe front to back.
Yogurt is the best known way, it contains lactobacillus acidophilus, a bacterium that also happens to be found in healthy vaginas and that kills yeast by producing hydrogen peroxide. You need to insert plain pro-biotic yogurt into your vagina, do this before bed to avoid mess then wash in the morning, do this for a few days to get rid of the infection. You can place the yogurt into ice cube trays to make it simpler to insert, the cultures don’t survive as well but this way is less mess and the coolness helps ease the irritation.
Garlic, not recommended if you’re sexually active, but it works as it contains natural antifungal substances that kill off yeast. You insert a garlic clove into your vagina, peel beforehand but do not score the clove in anyway as this can sting your vagina, if worried about removal you can use a small clean muslin around it or tie string around it for simple removal.
Tea tree oil *check with your doctor!* essential oils tend to be a bit of a grey area when it comes to pregnancy, better to be safe then sorry. It’s a generall all-round anti-nasties, if you have a menstrual cup, softcups or a diaphragm you can place a few drops of the oil into these then insert into your vagina, ideally dilute with water but it is safe to use clean. Otherwise you can use an ancient jug, fill with warm water and place a few drops of the oil into the water, then use the water to wash over your vulva, best to do this in the shower or over the toilet to avoid water getting everywhere. If you can handle it you can just place a few drops directly onto your vulva and into your vagina, but it can sting.
Cranberry juice, these are used when you have a urinary infection as the berries contain substances that inhibit bacteria from clinging to the walls of your urinary tract, but they are also a plus because cranberries lower the pH of your urine, which then passes over some of your vulva on it’s way out so may help tackle a yeast infection or at least ease symptoms a small.

It is a simple fact that yeast, thrush, and Candida can be cured permanently. Once and for all completely eliminated. You can treat the root cause of yeast infection. And you can do this easily and safely in the privacy of your home. Even if your doctor may have told you differently!
Hard to believe, isn’t it?
